There are 7 types of boundary marks to be used in Malaysia according to Survey Department circular 4/2005 as you can see the diagramme at below.
Regarding the wooden peg as you mention, we use as a stesyen to set our total station to traverse. The wooden peg is no the permanent boundary in Malaysia. However, I been in Sarawak in year 1995. The Sarawak surveyor can use stesen as datum to start their work without look for boundary mark. How about your country? Peninsular Malaysia is using Cassini Solder Projection but in east Malaysia, there are using RSO. How about Australia?
